CD. Laserlight/Delta Music is widely regarded within the jazz world as a low-level company and will not shake their low-budget reputation until they stop doing what they have done with three recent reissues of vintage Mel Tormé material. They wisely reissued it in mono and it mostly sounds great. But they have provided absolutely no discographical information besides song titles times and backing groups. The 12 tracks are wonderful; Tormé s soothing expressive voice sounds enticing and enchanting. These sessions include Tormé with the Dean Trenier Buzz Adiam and Dean Elliot orchestras plus some Mel-Tones and Dave Barbour Four numbers. They are culled from 40s and 50s sessions but Laserlight should specify which dates and at what studios; the lack of information mars otherwise superb material. ~ Ron Wynn Rovi
