Southern Wood Fern produces upright fronds which are light green and feathery. This plant performs well when planted underneath shade trees or as a foundation planting. It grows extremely well when planted in a dry shady location but can also tolerate wet conditions. When planting this fern dig the hole twice as wide as the pot and mix rich garden soil in with your native soil then leave the top of the root ball 1/2 inch above the ground level when filling the hole with soil. Use a slow release granular fertilizer in Spring.
